Overview
Group Contact Newsletters are used to send email communications to Individuals associated with your Group Records. You can choose between two recipient types: Primary Contact for Group and Group Individuals. Each recipient type determines which contacts receive the newsletter.
This article explains how these recipient types work, how to manage the Primary Contact designation, and how to use custom fields to target specific Individuals.

Recipient types for Group newsletters
Engage+ Newsletters offer two group-based recipient types:
- Primary Contact for Group
- Group Individuals
These options may appear in the Select Newsletter Recipients pop-up window when you select a newsletter, and in the Recipient Type dropdown in the right-hand summary panel.
Select the recipient type based on the audience you want to reach.
When to use each target recipient
Both recipient types allow you to communicate with key stakeholders tied to your group records. However, the best choice will depend on how your agency uses the Primary Contact designation and which individuals you want to target with your message.

The green checkmark indicates the current Primary Contact.
- Select the checkbox next to the Individual you want to assign.
- When prompted, select OK to confirm.
The selected Individual is now designated as the Primary Contact for the Group Record.
Group Individual recipients
Group Individual recipients are used when you want to send newsletters to Individuals associated with your Group Records beyond just the Primary Contact.
This recipient type is commonly used to reach specific contacts involved in managing group benefits, such as HR representatives or Benefits Coordinators.
How your agency designates the Primary Contact may affect when this option is most appropriate.
For example, if the Primary Contact is set as the contract signer (such as a CEO or CFO), that Individual may not be the intended audience for newsletter content.
In those cases, Group Individual recipients allow you to target other relevant contacts who are more directly involved in day-to-day benefits management.
